Imam Hussein(as) “Death with dignity is better than life with Humiliation”

Salaamu alaykum wa rhmatallahu wa barkatu. Since the time of the Prophet Muhammad(saw) the grandson of the prophet, Imam Hussein(as) has been honored for his great tragedy in Karbala. The purpose of this piece will be to shed some light on the reason WHY. Tens of millions of people have visited the shrine of Imam Hussein(as) to pay tribute to this unbelievable man, even if it called for them to endure severe hardships. I have presented a brief bio on his birth, Quranic reference that shows the prophecy told of him in Karbala, traditions narrated about the Lord of the Martyrs and finally hopefully help you understand the significances of his remarkable sacrifice in Karbala.

Imam Hussein(as) was born in the month of Shabaan 4 AH 626 AD. His father is Imam Ali(as), his mother Fatima Zahra(as) the only biological child of the prophet that stayed alive, his older brother Imam Hassan(as) and his two sisters Zeinab(as) and Umm Kulthum(as). Although his sisters were not of AhlulBayt as he was, which included his brother, mother, father and grandfather, they from self Jihad reached a level that would accompany them. Quran S:33 V:33-(Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! and to purify you a (Thorough) purification).

When Hussein(as) was born and news reached the prophet(saw) he rushed straight to Fatima’s (as) house. The effects of grief and sorrow were apparent on his face. He then kissed the newborn pressing him against his chest and began to weep. He then said “May Allah(swt) curse the group who would kill you , O my Son. ”He repeated this phrase three times. He then gave the child to Safia the daughter of Abd al-Mutallalib. She then said” May my parent be sacrificed for you, who would kill him?” The prophet(saw) responded by saying “A seditious group from Banu Umayyads”. He then requested that she not tell Fatima(as) for the baby was still just born.(Hayat al-Imam al-Huysan vol.1 pg.27). Of course the prophet had recited Adhan and Aqama in both his left and right ears and gave him the name Hussein as he was instructed.(Kashf al-Ghama vol.2 pg.3-4) Also with Islamic customs the Prophet(saw) on the seventh day of Imam Hussein’s(as) birth sacrificed two sheep. He gave portion of it to midwife, offered alms equivalent to the weight of Imam Hussein’s(as) hair and perfumed him with some good smell.(Bihar al-Anwar vol.43 pg.239)

Historians have concluded that during pagan times the Arabs were not familiar with the names Hassan and Hussein so no one could name their children with either of these names, and these two names were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad(saw) by Allah(swt) threw divine revelation for the children of Fatima(as).(Asad al-Ghama vol.2 p.11)

As Imam Hussein(as) grew up he inherited the traits of his beloved Grandfather and parents. He learned and mastered the most important traits, such as education, faith, crusade, struggle, sacrifice, perseverance, purity, sincerity, piety, and asceticism. Now we all might practice these traits but how many of us can really say that we have mastered them all, zero. If you really have mastered all of these traits then you are a sinless human being, you are in the sight of perfection. You would be mistake free because of the wisdom you would hold. But we know that not just anyone is Infallible except who Allah’s (swt) chooses as Vicegerent’s (prophets and Imams) and the women that he chooses two carry or to look after these vessels.

The Prophet has said “Hassan and Hussein are the two chiefs of the youth of Paradise.”

The Prophet has said “Hussein is form me and I am from him, Allah(swt) loves whoever loves Hussein.”

The Prophet has said “Whoever loves Hassan and Hussein has also loved me, and whoever considers them enemy had done enmity with me.”

I now direct you to Quran S:37 V:107- “We ransomed him with a great sacrifice. This verse in the Quran is referring to Prophet Ibrahim(as) and when Allah(swt) told him to sacrifice his son Ismail(as) but when Ibrahim(as) went to slaughter his son he was blindfolded, and when he cut and removed the blindfold he found that his son was to his right and that a ram was sacrificed instead. Allah (swt) revealed to Ibrahim(as) saying “We (I) ransomed him with a great sacrifice. The word in Arabic for great is Aziim. So when we come to examine the word, the word was used by Allah(swt) to show something great was ransomed in absolute degree for Ismail(as). A ram by no means, in any way, whatsoever Huge or even gigantic can be termed as great. Even more so under no circumstances can a ram be greater than PROPHET Ismail (as).

You mean after Allah(swt) had chosen Ismail(as) to be a prophet and the father of the Arabs, ultimately Grandfather of Muhammad(saw), Allah(swt) sees fit to have a ram be a great enough of a sacrifice? Ibrahim is told in the Quran that he was made an Imam after he had passed all of his tests and was even told that Imam’s would come from his offspring. (Quran S:2 V:124) So once again, if Prophet Muhammad (saw) is from the genealogy of Ibrahim (as) and Allah (swt) has blessed Ismail(as) with the lineage of Muhammad(saw), and Muhammad is the best of all the prophets and his family is better than all of the other family’s, then how is it that Allah(swt) sees fit that a ram is a great enough of a sacrifice. So then what is the great sacrifice? Imam Hussein (as) is. Why Imam Hussein you ask, because Hussein (as) would be the Savior of Islam. I’ll get to that in a bit but let me list some more Quranic references that show who Imam Hussein(as) is, but they won’t be in depth of explanation because of the length of the article. Insha’Allah I will explain every single verse in depth in future blogs. Or Just comment I will explain it to you separately Insha’Allah.

More Quranic references about the Master of all Martyrs: Quran S:3 V:61, Quran S:42 V:23, Quran S:2 V:124, Quran S:33 V:33, Quran S:76 V:7-14 Quran S:4 V:59, and many more.

Now Imam Hussein’s (as) death was a sacrifice that surpassed all other sacrifices. He is the savor of Islam. Some might argue that the people that helped begin and spread the religion were greater sacrifices, because they paved the way for Islam to grow. It’s not a bad argument at all and those martyrs truly were great, but they don’t come close, and I’ll explain why. Allah (swt) says something in the Quran. Surah:5 V:3- “This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion”. This one verse alone is why none compare.

When this verse was revealed, Allah (swt) completed the religion on earth and bestowed his favor on us which was the appointing of Imam Ali(as). This verse was revealed after the speech was given and appointing of Imam Ali(as) on the day of Ghadeer Khum by the Holy Prophet(saw). But let us not get side tracked about the meaning of the verse. We are looking for why this verse is so important that makes Imam Hussein(as) the greatest martyr-sacrifice to ever walk the face of the earth.

We all know that Allah(swt) does not contradict Himself. That’s a fact and an undeniable on as well. So if Allah(swt) has said I have completed your religion on earth, that means it is 100% complete. Nothing can change it and nothing will. Allah(swt) states that Islam is your religion and it is complete. Therefore the martyrs that died to pave the way for Islam were undeniably great but there significance is a mere shadow compared to Imam Hussein(as). Islam was not yet complete as a whole. Allah(swt) had not yet established his final ruling on earth to come forth and say now your religion is complete and no one can change that. Islam was destined to be victories. So the significance of those martyrs signifies that we will fight in the way of Allah(swt) so that his ruling may come forth and be established, and many did and died a martyrs death. But the significances of Imam Hussein’s(as) death signifies that he dies so Allah(swt) word and religion would remain perfect because it already had been established. He died for the cause of the perfection of Allah(swt). He sacrificed himself and his family and friends to show the world that no one, not even tyrants like Yazeed(la) can change Allah(swt) religion and that His word is perfect. Imam Hussein’s(as) death showed the world that although we marched in a battle that was certain death we still were victories because what we fought for was the preservation of Allah’s(swt) perfect words and religion. He knew when he reached Karbala he would be killed, yet his mission was clear, preserve the perfection of Islam. Those martyrs that paved the way knew not if they would die or live. They knew that there would be a chance of death if they fought for truth. But Imam Hussein(as) fought even when knowing he would be killed. Allah(swt) predestined his death in Karbala to preserve Islam and the perfection of his word.

Because of Imam Hussein(as) our religion still exists till this day and it will for all time. Thats is why he will be remembered and mourned forever. Click here on to read justification of Mourning of Imam Hussein(as).

That is why Imam Hussein(as) is the Master of all Martyrs and is the greatest Martyr-sacrifice that has ever come and to come.

Imam Hussein(as) says “Oh Allah, I have left the entire world for the sake of You, And I have orphaned my children so that I be with You. So if I am cut into pieces for the love of You, my heart would lean to none other than You.”

“The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Karbala is that Husain and his companions were rigid believers in God. They illustrated that the numerical superiority does not count when it comes to the truth and the falsehood. The victory of Husain, despite his minority, marvels me!” —Thomas Carlyle

“In a distant age and climate, the tragic scene of the death of Hosein will awaken the sympathy of the coldest reader.” — Edward Gibbon

“I learnt from Hussein how to achieve victory while being oppressed.” — Mahatma Gandhi

“If Husain had fought to quench his worldly desires, then I do not understand why his sisters, wives and children accompanied him. It stand to reason therefore he sacrificed purely for Islam.” – Charles Dickens

With popular demand on the explanation of Mut’aa, I present to you: “Is Mut’aa forbidden”?

Quran: Surah: Nisa(4) Verse:24- And all married women are forbidden save those whom your right hand possess. (This is) Allah’s written ordinance for you. Except for these, allowed to you are all women; that you seek them in exchange for wealth to marry, not for debauchery. As to those whom you have married for a fixed time (Mut’aa), give them there agreed dowries; and there is no sin for you in what you mutually agree together after what has been settled. Verily, Allah is all-Knowing, Wise.

Let me break down the verse for you and show you the Qareena(indicators) that you so strongly desire:

The verse in Arabic reads- Wa Al-Muhsanatu Mina An-Nisā’ ‘Illā Mā Malakat ‘Aymānukum Kitāba Allāhi `Alaykum Wa ‘Uĥilla Lakum Mā Warā’a Dhālikum ‘An Tabtaghū Bi’amwālikum Muĥşinīna Ghayra Musāfiĥīna Famastamta-tum bihi Minhunna Fa’ātūhunna ‘Ujūrahunna Farīđatan Wa Lā Junāĥa `Alaykum Fīmā Tarāđaytum Bihi Min Ba`di Al-Farīđati ‘Inna Allāha Kāna `Alīmāan Ĥakīmāan.

The word Muhsanat means well-guarded or protected. They are married women (free and slave), minors and insane females. “Save those whom your right hands own” signifies “such married women as shall come in your possession as prisoners of war”. Such women, when not taken back on payment of ransom or through negotiation, are lawful as wives, even though their previous marriage has not been formally dissolved, provided the infidel woman becomes a Muslim.

Now, Famastamta-tum bihi is the Qareena that provides for Mut’aa marriage. (It is translated to “when you have enjoyment with her”) It has been made lawful by the Quran and the Holy Prophet, therefore, it cannot be unlawful by anyone unless, Allah(swt) makes it unlawful in the Quran. Because nothing can make a Quranic verse null unless it is from the Quran. I challenge you to produce a single verse in the Quran that banned Mut’aa. If you dare bring me a verse I will refute it. I already know the verse you may try to bring. A non scholar, Sunni of course, tried to bring a verse that had nothing to with the subject; but because it sounded relevant, he used it. I bring this up because you are the same kind of people; you have never read the Quran or even hadith, all you do is go to hate sites and hear someone say something and it becomes dogma for you. My suggestion would be not to humiliate yourself by doing that, maybe you won’t. I will give you a hint (33:52). The only thing you are good for is bringing random verses without even knowing what they mean, what they are referring to, and presenting them as your proof. So what proof do you produce? You present us with hadith that says Mut’aa was banned by the Holy Prophet. Your favorite one’s are narrated by Imam Ali(as). Three examples:

Sahih Bukhari: Volume: 5 Book: 59 Number: 527- Narrated ‘Ali bin Abi Talib: On the day of Khaybar, Allah’s Apostle forbade the Mut’a (temporary marriage) and the eating of donkey-meat.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume:5 Book:62 Number:50- Narrated ‘Ali: I said to Ibn ‘Abbas, “During the battle of Khaibar the Prophet forbade (Nikah) Al-Mut’a and the eating of donkey’s meat.”

Sahih Bukhari: Volume:7 Book:67 Number:432- Narrated ‘Ali: Allah’s Apostle prohibited Al-Mut’a marriage and the eating of donkey’s meat in the year of the Khaibar battle

First off, hadith does not cancel Quran, like I said– if a hadith contradicts Quran you don’t accept it. But let me refute it in a different manner. There are about 117 hadith (Bukhari) referring to the day of Khaybar. In all, they narrate three (3) things that were banned: Mut’aa, donkey meat and garlic. Mut’aa is mentioned only seven(7) times. I already posted three hadith that say’s Mut’aa was banned on the day of khaybar.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume: 5 Book: 59 Number: 526-Narrated Ibn Umar: On the day of Khaiber, Allah’s Apostle forbade the eating of garlic and the meat of donkeys.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume:67 Book:67 Number:429- Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: On the Day of the battle of Khaibar, Allah’s Apostle made donkey’s meat unlawful and allowed the eating of horse flesh. (Also Volume: 7 Book: 67 Number: 433)

So then how come you still eat garlic? You say that the Prophet banned Mut’aa during the day of Khaybar; he also banned garlic and donkey meat. How come Ahlul Sunna still eat garlic??? It’s simple: because it was only banned for that one day. But let’s look at this from another angle, because you will produce me fake hadith from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim where Imam Ali(as) says it’s banned forever. examples:

Sahih Bukhari: Volume:7 Book:62 Number:52- Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah and Salama bin Al-Akwa’: While we were in an army, Allah’s Apostle came to us and said, “You have been allowed to do the Mut’a (marriage), so do it.” Salama bin Al-Akwa’ said: Allah’s Apostle’s said, “If a man and a woman agree (to marry temporarily), their marriage should last for three nights, and if they like to continue, they can do so; and if they want to separate, they can do so.” I do not know whether that was only for us or for all the people in general. Abu Abdullah (Al-Bukhari) said: ‘Ali made it clear that the Prophet said, “The Mut’a marriage has been cancelled (made unlawful).”

Sahih Muslim: Book: 008 Number: 3266- Ali (Allah be pleased with him) heard that Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) gave some relaxation in connection with the contracting of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Don’t be hasty (in your religious verdict), Ibn ‘Abbas, for Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar prohibited for ever the doing of it-And eating of the flesh of domestic asses.

Sahih Muslim: Book: 008 Number: 3262- Sabra al-Juhanni reported on the authority of his father: Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) prohibited the contracting of temporary marriage and said: Behold, it is forbidden from this very day of yours to the Day of Resurrection, and he who has given something (as a dower) should not take it back.

Although some people differed:

Sahih Bukhari: Volume:7 Book:62 Number:52- Narrated Abu Jamra: I heard Ibn Abbas (giving a verdict) when he was asked about the Mut’a with the women, and he permitted it (Nikah-al-Mut’a). On that a freed slave of his said to him, “That is only when it is very badly needed and women are scarce.” On that, Ibn ‘Abbas said, “Yes.”

The first question is, so what happened to the garlic? It’s funny how garlic is no longer brought up. Yes you have hadith that mentions “don’t come to the mosque when you eat it”, it says “wait till the odor dies”. There is even hadith where someone is asked a question about eating garlic. He asked, “is it forbidden?” The man replies NO. (example: Sahih Muslim: book:23 hadith:5097). But never mind that now, let’s get back to the subject at hand. If Mut’aa was banned by the Prophet(sawaw) then by your standards Abu Bakr and Omar are Kafirs. Why? Because hadith narrates that they allowed Mut’aa during their times as Kalifa, but was later banned by Omar:

Sahih Muslim: Book: 008 Number: 3248- Ibn Uraij reported: ‘Ati’ reported that jibir b. Abdullah came to perform ‘Umra, and we came to his abode, and the people asked him about different things, and then they made a mention of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Yes, we had been benefiting ourselves by this temporary marriage during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) and during the time of Abu Bakr and Umar.

Sahih Muslim: Book: 008 Number: 3249- Jabir b. ‘Abdullah reported: We contracted temporary marriage giving a handful of (tales or flour as a dower during the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and durnig the time of Abu Bakr until ‘Umar forbade it in the case of ‘Amr b. Huraith.

Sahih Muslim: Book: 008 Number: 3250: Abu Nadra reported: While I was in the company of Jabir b. Abdullah, a person came to him and said that Ibn ‘Abbas and Ibn Zubair differed on the two types of Mut’as (Tamattu’ of Hajj 1846 and Tamattu’ with women), whereupon Jabir said: We used to do these two during the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him). Umar then forbade us to do them, and so we did not revert to them.

So now, if I accept that the Prophet(sawaw) banned Mut’aa then Abu Bakr and Omar are kafirs for allowing it to have been done during their reigns; because no man has the right to make anything halal after it has been made haram by Allah(swt) and the Prophet(sawaw). But if it was made haram by Omar, then he has no right to make anything haram which Allah(swt) and the Prophet(sawaw) has made halal. So which one is it????? Either way, your hadith contradict each other, and shows proof Abu Bakr and Omar were kafirs (or just Omar) on the subject of Mut’aa.

So in conclusion Mut’aa is not haram and is allowed in Islam, of course when the conditions are meet. Salaamu alaykum

so many times I hear Sunni’s come forth and say that Umm Kulthum(as), daughter of Imam Ali(as) was married to Omar(la). Wrong!!! Let me set the record straight now, incase you were misinformed by your politician of a Sheikh. She was NOT married to him, here Husband was Aun bin Ja’far, who was the son of Imam Ali’s(as) brother. Mathematically it can be proven that she was not married to Omar. According to the politicians, Umm Kulthum and Omar ibn al-Khattab were married in the year 17 Hijri, when Umm Kulthum was 4 or 5 years old. That means she would have been born around the year 12 or 13 Hijri. So you mean Imam Ali(as) allowed his daughter to marry at 4 or 5 years old? Wow, anything to try to justify their idols. Anyways, now we expose these liars. If the Prophet Muhammad(saw) died in the year 11 Hijri, and Fatimah al-Zahra(as) died 6 months later, how in the world could Umm Kuthum(as) have been born after the death of her Mother(as). Even Sahih Bukhari confirms she died 6 months later. Sahih Bukhari:Volume:5 Book:59 Hadith:546, not to mention its also the hadith about Abu Bakr(la) stealing her land that Allah(swt) gave to her. Quran: Surah:17 verse:26

Next they mark her(as) death in 50 Hijir, but how is that possible when she was present in Karbala when Imam Hussein(as) was martyred in the year 61 Hijri. Yes, she remarried her cousin Abdullah ibn Jafar ibn Abu Talib, after the death of her sister Zeinab(as), who was married to him before her. But that’s it, that is the only two times she married so what the are these politicians talking about. So just who did Omar(la) marry……… Umm Kalthum bint Abu bakr. Let me explain so it all makes sense.

Omar did not just have one wife named umm Kulthum, he had a total of FIVE wives by that name.

Umm Kulthum bint Jarwila Khizima, Umm Kulthum bint Uqba, Umm Kulthum bint Rahab, Umm Kulthum bint Asim, and then finally Umm Kulthum bint Abu Bakr.

She was born after the death of her father in the year 13 hijri, her mother is Asma bint Umays. She was pregnant with her when Abu Bakr died. They also had one more child before her, guess who, Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr. A true companion of Imam Ali(as). So just how did she get the title bint Ali. If you clicked on her mothers name, you would have read a brief bio on her and put two and two together, but I will explain it anyway’s. Asma bint Umays Married Imam Ali(as) after the death of Abu bakr. Imam Ali(as) loved Muhammad ibn Abu bakr very much. So he married his mother shortly to take him in as his own. Son naturally Imam Ali(as) moved them into his home. Now if you do the math that was done earlier on this Umm Kulthum, it works out according to the Sunni hadith.

Also note: Omar did not go to Imam Ali(as) to ask for her hand but he sent word to Aisha, her older sister, and she accepted. So in conclusion Umm Kulthum(as) bint Imam Ali(as) did NOT marry Omar(la). Thank you.

Ps. For you hypocrites that challenge this I have saved your Sunni hadith that prove this truth. I did not incorporate a lot of these references you can have a little faith I could be wrong or lying, so then you would question it and then i would drop them on you.

As Imam Ali(as) would say “Peace be upon those who deserve it”

Praise be to Allah who is such that it is not possible to describe the reality of knowledge about Him, since His greatness has restrained the intellects, and therefore they cannot find the way to approach the extremity of His realm. He is Allah, the True, the Manifester of Truth. He is more True and more Manifest than eyes can see. Intellects cannot comprehend Him by fixing limits for Him since in that case to Him would be attributed shape. Imagination cannot catch Him by fixing quantities for Him for in that case to Him would be attributed body. He created creatures without any example, and without the advice of a counsel, or the assistance of a helper. His creation was completed by His command, and bowed to His obedience. It responded (to Him) and did not defy (Him). It obeyed and did not resist.

An example of His delicate production, wonderful creation and deep sagacity which He has shown us is found in these bats which keep hidden in the daylight although daylight reveals everything else, and are mobile in the night although the night shuts up every other living being; and how their eyes get dazzled and cannot make use of the light of the sun so as to be guided in their movements and so as to reach their known places through the direction provided by the sun.

Allah has prevented them from moving in the brightness of the sun and confined them to their places of hiding instead of going out at the time of its shining. Consequently they keep their eyelids down in the day and treat night as a lamp and go with its help in search of their livelihood. The darkness of night does not obstruct their sight nor does the gloom of darkness prevent them from movement. As soon as the sun removes its veil and the light of morning appears, and the rays of its light enter upon the lizards in their holes, the bats pull down their eyelids on their eyes and live on what they had collected in the darkness of the night. Glorified is He who has made the night as day for them to seek livelihood and made the day for rest and stay.

He has given them wings of flesh with which, at the time of need they rise upwards for flying. They look like the ends of ears without feathers or bones. Of course, you can see the veins quite distinctly. They have two wings which are neither too thin so that they get turned in flying, nor too thick so that they prove heavy. When they fly, their young ones hold on to them and seek refuge with them, getting down when they get down and rising up when they rise. The young does not leave them till its limbs become strong, its wings can support it for rising up, and it begins to recognize its places of living and its interest. Glorified is He who creates everything without any previous sample by someone else.

So now, certainly I frighten you from this world for it is sweet and green, surrounded by lusts, and liked for its immediate enjoyments. It excites wonder with small things, is ornamented with (false) hopes and decorated with deception. Its rejoicing does not last and its afflictions cannot be avoided. It is deceitful, harmful, changing, perishable, exhaustible, liable to destruction, eating away and destructive. When it reaches the extremity of desires of those who incline towards it and feel happy with it, the position is just what Allah, the Glorified, says (in the Qur’an):

… like the water which We send down from heaven, and the herbage of the earth becomes tangled on account of it, then it becomes dry stubble which the winds scatter; for Allah over all things hath power. (18:45)

No person gets rejoicing from this world but tears come to him after it, and no one gets its comforts in the front but he has to face hardships in the rear. No one receives the light rain of ease in it but the heavy rain of distress pours upon him. It is just worthy of this world that in the morning it supports a man but in the evening it does not recognize him. If one side of it is sweet and pleasant the other side is bitter and distressing.

No one secures enjoyment from its freshness but he has to face hardship from its calamities. No one would pass the evening under the wing of safety but that his morning would be under the feathers of the wing-tip of fear. It is deceitful, and all that is there in it is deception. It is perishable and all that is on it is to perish. There is no good in its provisions except in piety. Whoever takes little from it collects much of what would give him safety, while one who takes much from it takes much of what would ruin him. He would shortly depart from his collection. How many people relied on it but it distressed them; (how many) felt peaceful with it but it tumbled them down; how many were prestigious but it made them low and how many were proud but it made them disgraceful.

Its authority is changing. Its life is dirty. Its sweet water is bitter. Its sweetness is like myrrh. Its foods are poisons. Its means are weak. The living in it is exposed to death; the healthy in it is exposed to disease. Its realm is (liable to be) snatched away. The strong in it is (liable to be) defeated and the rich is (liable to be) afflicted with misfortune. The neighbor in it is (liable to be) plundered.

Are you not (residing) in the houses of those before you, who were of longer ages, better traces, had bigger desires, were more in numbers and had greater armies. How they devoted themselves to the world and how they showed preference to it! Then they left it without any provision that could convey them through, or the back (of a beast for riding) to carry them.

Did you get the news that the world was ever generous enough to present ransom for them, or gave them any support or afforded them good company? It rather inflicted them with troubles, made them languid with calamities, molested them with catastrophes, threw them down on their noses, trampled them under hoofs and helped the vicissitudes of time against them. You have observed its strangeness towards those who went near it, acquired it and appropriated it, till they depart from it for good. Did it give them any provision other than starvation or make them stay in other than narrow places, or give them light other than gloom, or give them in the end anything other than repentance? Is this what you much ask for or remain satisfied with, or towards which you feel greedy? How bad is this abode for him who did not suspect it (to be so) and did not entertain fear from it?

You should know as you do know, that you have to leave it and depart from it. While in it, take lesson from those “who proclaimed ‘who is more powerful than we’” (Qur’an , 41 :15) but they were carried to their graves, though not as riders. They were then made to stay in the graves, but not as guests. Graves were made for them from the surface of the ground. Their shrouds were made from earth. Old bones were made their neighbor. They are neighbors who do not answer a caller nor ward off trouble, nor pay heed to a mourner.

If they get rain they do not feel happy, and if they face famine they do not get disappointed. They are together but each one apart. They are close together but do not see each other. They are near but do not meet. They are enduring and have no hatred. They are ignorant and their malice has died away. There is no fear of trouble from them and no hope of their warding off (troubles). They have exchanged the back (surface) of the earth with its stomach (interior), vastness with narrowness, family with loneliness, and light with darkness. They have come to it (this world) as they had left it with bare feet and naked bodies. They departed from it with their acts towards the continuing life and everlasting house as Allah has said:

. . . As We caused the first creation, so will We get it return. (It is) a promise binding Us, verily We were doing it. (Qur’an , 21 :104)

The month of Muharram is the month of mourning for Ashoura. A event that was so horrific that nothing in history before or after can compare!! The massacre of Imam Hussein(as) and his 72 companions resulted in victory for Islam. Because of these brave men the religion of the Holy Prophet(saw) was maintained. So every year we mourn this event because of the endurement and punishment that Hussein(as), his family and companions, went through in their stance against the corruption of Yazid and his army to save Islam.

Those who love Hussein(as) ,wish with all their hearts they could have been their to have laid down there lives for him but, the reality is we weren’t. So to feel the pain or I mean, to feel a teaspoon if that, of his pain we perform lutmia’s. Lutmia’s are series of sad lyrics that are put together that bring remembrance of Ashoura. When these lyrics are being recited the listeners will hit themselves with the palms of there hand on their chest and mourn. Sometimes because of our devotion for Hussein(as) and unexpressed love we will use chains to hit our backs. Some might make a small cut on their head which allows a small amount of blood to come out, and will continuously hit the cut to try to feel Hussein’s(as) pain. But as extreme as it may sound to some, all this can’t come close to the pain Hussein(as) felt, pain that was caused by: arrows that pierced his entire upper body. (The arrows that were used were arrows used to hunt camels) Cuts on his body that were caused by a army of 70,000 men. His body trampled on and ripped apart by the horse of the enemy. (purposely) His head cut of his body and put on a spear. All his companions and some family members killed, including his 6 month old baby, who was struck with a arrow in his trot. The rest of his family taken as prisoners of war an abused and whipped. Most of them were women. So like I was saying, as extreme as it sounds it’s nothing compared to the event that took place in Karbala.

Please NOTE: These Latmia’s are preformed after the mourning of Huseein(as) in Majalis. Majalis’s are the moments of the battle and, what led up to the battle which are put into a speech type lecture. So Majalis’s are the center of Ashoura not Latmia’s.

Now once again we are ridiculed by our Sunni brothers and Sisters. They say:” It’s haram to hit yourself because it causes you pain”. So, is this form of loyalty beyond Islamic law? Lets see. Did our Sunni brothers so quickly forget about the companion of Prophet who they say expressed his loyalty and love to the prophet when he the Prophet(saw) lost a tooth in the battle of Uhad.

His name is Hazrat Uwais Qarni(ra) he was a compaion of the Prophet Muahmmad(saw). He also was a companion of Imam Ali(as) and was in the battle of Suffin.

Sahih Muslim: Book:31 Hadith:6170- Usair b. Jabir reported that a delegation from Kufa came to ‘Umar and there was a person amongst them who jeered at Uwais. Thereupon Umar said: Is there amongst us one from Qaran? That person came and Umar said: Verily Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) has said: There would come to you a person from Yemen who would be called Uwais and he would leave none in Yemen (behind him) except his mother, and he would have the whiteness (due to leprosy) and he supplicated Allah and it was cured except for the size of a dinar or dirham. He who amongst you meets him should ask him to supplicate for forgiveness (from Allah) for you.

Sahih Muslim: Book:31 Hadith:6171- ‘Umar b. Khattab reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Worthy amongst the successors would be a person who would be called Uwais. He would have his mother (living with him) and he would have (a small) sign of leprosy. Ask him to beg pardon for you (from Allah).

Sahih Muslim: Book:31 Hadith:6172- ‘………..Umar (again) said: Did you suffer from leprosy and then you were cured from it but for the space of a dirham? He said: Yes. He (’Umar) said: Is your mother (living)? He said: Yes. He (’Umar) said: I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) say: There would come to you Uwais b. Amir with the reinforcement from the people of Yemen. (He would be) from Qaran, (the branch) of Murid. He had been suffering from leprosy from which he was cured but for a spot of a dirham. His treatment with his mother would have been excellent. If he were to take an oath in the name of Allah, He would honour that. And if it is possible for you, then do ask him to beg forgiveness for you (from your Lord). So he (Uwais) begged forgiveness for him………….. So the people came to know about (the status of religious piety) of Uwais. He went away (from that place)………..

A Hadith Qudsi according to our Sunni brothers: Abu Hurayra repoerted- “Allah, Exalted and Mighty is He, loves of His creation the God-fearing, the pure in the heart, those who are hidden, and those who are innocent, whose face is dusty, whose hair is unkempt, whose stomach is empty, and who, if he asks permission to enter to the rulers, is not granted it, and if he were to ask for a gentle lady in marriage, he would be refused, and when he leaves the world it does not miss him, and if he goes out, his going out is not noticed, and if he falls sick, he is not attended to, and if he dies, he is not accompanied to his grave.” (I have not been able to find this hadith but, it’s Quoted form every Sunni site I go to).

But anyways after hearing this they asked him, “O Messenger of Allah, how can we find someone like that?” He, upon whom be peace and blessings, said, “Uwais al-Qarani is such a one.”Concerning the hadith of the Prophet, upon whom be peace and blessings, “More people shall enter Paradise through the intercession of a certain man from my Community than there are people in the tribes of Rabi`a and Mudar,”[1] al-Hasan al-Basri said: “That is Uwais al-Qarni.”

So just what happened according to our Sunni brothers? According to the Story Uwais al-Qarni heard that the Prophet had lost a tooth in the battle of Uhad. Because of his love and devotion to him he broke all his teeth in his mouth because he was not sure which tooth is was. This was a sign of his love for him. The man had never even seen or, got to see the Holy Prophet face to face.

Straight of a Sunni website, all I had to do is copy and paste

The story of the great Ashiq Ar-Rasool

Once the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him), while speaking to Sahaba-Ikram (companions), said: “There is a person in my Ummah (followers) whose prayers would bring forgiveness to as many sinners as the number of hair of the sheep in the tribes of Rabia and Mazar.” The two tribes were well known for raising sheep during the time of the Holy Prophet. The disclosure made the Sahaba-Ikram very curious. They asked the Holy Prophet about the name of that person and the place he lived in. The Holy Prophet first hesitated, but on their insistence told them the name of a person who lived in Qarn, Awais Qarni.

The Holy Prophet continued: “On the Day of Judgment, Awais would be accompanied to paradise by 70,000 angels who’d resemble him.” The reason the Holy Prophet gave for this was: “Since Awais prayed all his life in seclusion so as not to be noticed, Allah would also keep his purdah (cover).”

When people asked the Holy Prophet whether Awais Qarni had even come to see him, he said: “No, he never saw me, but he has the privilege of seeing me through Kashf (spiritual revelation), and he has reasons for not being able to see me. He is the only one to take care of his blind mother.”

Again Sahaba-Ikram asked if they could see him, to which the Holy Prophet replied: “No, only Umer bin Khattab and Ali would meet him, and his identification is – he has thick hair all over his body, and a white patch on his left hand.” He directed Hazrat Umer and Hazrat Ali: “When you see him, convey to him my salaam (greetings) and ask him to pray for my Ummah.”

“And who’d be the right person to receive your Abaya (the cloak the Holy Prophet used over his clothes) after you leave the world?” the Sahaba asked.

“Awais Qarni,” said the Holy Prophet.

When the Holy Prophet left the world and Hazrat Umer became the caliph, he, along with Hazrat Ali, went to Qarn to look for Awais Qarni. No one knew about him. However, the people of Qarn told them that outside the town there lived an insane person who laughed at the crying people and cried for those who laughed. When Hazrat Umer and Hazrat Ali reached there they saw a person praying amidst the grazing sheep. When he finished his prayers, he saw the visitors and said: “It is the first time anyone has ever seen me praying.”

“What’s your name?” Hazrat Umer and Hazrat Ali asked. “Abdullah (the servant of Allah).”

“Tell us your real name?”

“Awais.”

“Show us your hand,” Hazrat Umer and Hazrat Ali immediately kissed the white patch the Holy Prophet had talked about. Then they presented to him the holy dress and asked him to pray for the Ummah as directed by the Holy Prophet.

Hazrat Awais Qarni took the dress and stepped away to offer prayers: “O Allah, unless you forgive the sins of the followers of the Holy Prophet I won’t wear his dress.” Then they heard a voice: “I’ve forgiven some of them.” All of a sudden came in front of him Hazrat Umer and Hazrat Ali. “Why did you come in front of me? Unless I had sought Allah’s forgiveness for the entire Ummah I would not stop my prayers.” Then he donned the Abaya of the Holy Prophet and disclosed that Allah had forgiven the number of people equivalent to the hair of the sheep of the Rabia and Mazar tribes.

Afterwards, Hazrat Umer asked him why he didn’t receive the honour of seeing the Holy Prophet. In response to this Hazrat Awais asked them to tell whether the brows of the Holy Prophet were wide or dense? Both Sahabas could not answer the question. Then he asked another question: “Which tooth of the Prophet was martyred in the battle of Uhad? Why didn’t you break all your teeth for the love of your Prophet?” Saying this, he showed his toothless mouth. “When I broke my first tooth I thought it might be the other one. Then I broke the other one. Still I was not satisfied. When I had broken all my teeth only then I received some relief.”

Seeing so much devotion to the Holy Prophet and his extraordinary Tasawwaf, Hazrat Umer wished to give up his Khilafat and adopt the ways of Hazrat Awais Qarni. Sensing his thought, Hazrat Awais said, “You should have given up Khilafat for anyone else, and dedicated yourself entirely to Allah.”

Hazrat Umer asked him for some advice. “O Umer, you recognize Allah and there is nothing better than the sense that no one recongizes you but Allah.” Then he thanked them for taking all the trouble to come and see him. Very much impressed, Hazrat Umer and Hazrat Ali returned home filled with great regard for Hazrat Awais Qarni.

Soon after that, the people of Qarn came to know about his spiritual excellence and they started regarding him as a great saint of Allah. Since he didn’t like to be known as a saint, he left for Kufa where, while fighting for Hazrat Ali in the battle of Safain, he was martyred.

Hazrat Awais Qarni always considered worldly life a temporary sojourn and often said, “Sleep with the remembrance of death, and rise with the thought that you will not live long.” He received spiritual training directly from the Holy Prophet. Often the Holy Prophet said: “Awais is the best amongst Ta’beens (the successors of the companions of the Holy Prophet).”

Now after hearing this story and hearing the Prophet Muahmmad(saw) say: “Hussein is form me and I am from him, Allah(swt) loves whoever loves Hussein”. Was it only Hussein’s(as) blood spilled in Karbala? Is our action of mourning of Hussein haram? You put the puzzle together, I’m done talking. Salaamu alaykum.

Whenever we bring forth the discussion of intercession we are called Kafars by our Sunni brothers and sisters. They say that intercession is a form of shirk (giving God a equal) and that no one can intercede for anyone when we are being judged by Allah(swt) on the day of judgement. We humbly disagree. Like always we prove our claim through Quran. And to further show proof that Allah(swt) allows intercession to be done I will provide Sunni Hadith that our Sunni brothers and Sisters claim to be Sahih and I do this because of the outrageous cries from Sunnis that say, we Shia translate the Quranic verses wrong. So let us begin to examine the topic of Intercession. I will try to make it fast and short as possible!!

First off when we examine intercession we must understand it in two parts. The first part is Wasilla (someone who is a bridge or link between you and Allah in the world). The second part is Shafa’a (someone who intercedes for you on the day of judgement).

Now Wasilla can be explained very fast and easy. When Allah(swt) communicates with mankind how does he do it? Of course he chooses messengers that relay his message. So, through the prophets, Allah(swt) makes aware his existence and rules to mankind. So if Allah(swt) uses a Wasilla to communicate with you, why would it not be possible to use the Wasilla to get to Allah(swt). We don’t worship the Wasilla!! Allah(swt) has accepted this person as a means of mercy to mankind, so why NOT? And in fact, when we read in the Quran, we see just that:

Quran Surah:2 Verse:61- And when you said: O Musa! we cannot bear with one food, therefore pray Lord on our behalf to bring forth for us out of what the earth grows, of its herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions…………… this was so because they disobeyed and exceeded the limits.

Quran Surah:7 Verse:134-135- And when the plague fell upon them, they said: O Musa! pray for us to your Lord as He has made a covenant with you, if you remove the plague from us, we will certainly believe in you and we will certainly send away with you the children of Israel. But when We removed the plague from them till a term which they should attain lo! they broke (the promise).

Quran Surah:3 Verse:159- Thus it is due to mercy from Allah that you deal with them gently, and had you been rough, hard hearted, they would certainly have dispersed from around you; pardon them therefore and ask pardon for them, and take counsel with them in the affair; so when you have decided, then place your trust in Allah; surely Allah loves those who trust.

Quran Surah:4 Verse:64- And We did not send any apostle but that he should be obeyed by Allah’s permission; and had they, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah and the Apostle had (also) asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful.

Quran Surah:63 Verse:5- And when it is said to them: Come, the Apostle of Allah will ask forgiveness for you, they turn back their heads and you may see them turning away while they are big with pride.

So from these five verses we see that Allah(swt) has allowed people to go through his chosen people to reach him as He has done to reach us. Not only that, but he has even on some occasions prescribed the people to do so. So when we do dua for Imam al-Mahdi(as) to come and to be a Wasilla between us and Allah there is nothing wrong with it, for Allah(swt) has allowed us to. But now our Sunni brothers and sisters will say, "fine yes this type of intercession is permitted– but for the dunya(world) and with someone who Allah(swt) has made a covenant with," but Imam al-Mahdi is not a prophet so how did Allah(swt) establish a covenant with him? How quickly we forget when Allah(swt) in the Quran established a covenant of Imama with Prophet Ibrahim(as). Quran Suarh:2 Verse:124- And when his Lord tried Ibrahim with certain words, he fulfilled them. He said: Surely I will make you an Imam for mankind. Ibrahim said: And of my offspring? My covenant does not include the unjust, said He.

As for those who challenge you and say yes but that person must be alive and he must be seen. Is Imam al-Mahdi(as) not alive? Is it Imam al-Mahdi giving you what you need or is it Allah(swt)? So if I pray in his name Allah will give me not the Imam, so why do I need to see him face to face. For the Sunni’s that don’t accept he is born that is a whole separate topic. But have them prove he is not born, and that they can never do.

Now the second part is Shafa’a. Someone who can intercede for you on the day of Judgement in front of Allah(swt). Also when I say in front of Allah(swt) it’s metaphorical, not literal. All though you may be surprised on the answer you will get from some of your Sunni brothers and Sisters. Any ways, now they come forth and say that this kind of intercession is shirk and in fact Quran makes it clear that there is no intercession for anyone . They will even present these verses:

Quran Surah:32 Verse:4- Allah is He Who created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six periods, and He mounted the throne (of authority); you have not besides Him any guardian or any intercessor, will you not then mind?

Quran Surah:40 Verse:18- And warn them of the day that draws near, when hearts shall rise up to the throats, grieving inwardly; the unjust shall not have any compassionate friend nor any intercessor who should be obeyed.

Quran Surah:39 Verse:43-44- Or have they taken intercessors besides Allah? Say: what! even though they did not ever have control over anything, nor do they understand. Say: Allah’s is the intercession altogether; His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, then to Him you shall be brought back.

Quran Surah:7 Verse:53- Do they wait for aught but its final sequel? On the day when its final sequel comes about, those who neglected it before will say: Indeed the apostles of our Lord brought the truth; are there for us then any intercessors so that they should intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back so that we should do (deeds) other than those which we did? Indeed they have lost their souls and that which they forged has gone away from them.

Quran Surah:26 Verse:100- So we have no intercessors

Quran Surah:6 Verse:51- And warn with it those who fear that they shall be gathered to their Lord…. there is no guardian for them, nor any intercessor besides Him ……that they may guard (against evil).

Quran Surah:6 Verse:70- And leave those who have taken their religion for a play…..it shall not have besides Allah any guardian nor an intercessor……and a painful chastisement because they disbelieved.

Quran Surah:6 Verse:94- And certainly you have come to Us alone as We created you at first, and you have left behind your backs the things which We gave you, and We do not see with you your intercessors about whom you asserted that they were (Allah’s) associates in respect to you; certainly the ties between you are now cut off and what you asserted is gone from you.

Quran Surah:2 Verse:48- And be on your guard against a day when one soul shall not avail another in the least, neither shall intercession on its behalf be accepted, nor shall any compensation be taken from it, nor shall they be helped.

Quran Surah:2 Verse:254- O you who believe! spend out of what We have given you before the day comes in which there is no bargaining, neither any friendship nor intercession, and the unbelievers — they are the unjust.

Now after they have presented you with these verses you first ask them does Quran contradict itself? Of course they will say no, then you present them with these verses where Allah(swt) says there is no intercession but EXCEPT for some people there is. The first verse is a verse we use every single day but never really grasp to understand a certain part of it. Ayat al-Kursi Quran Surah:2 Verse:255- Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist……who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission?…..He is the Most High, the Great. So Allah(swt) has made it clear in the verse that no one can intercede without his permission, so he left the room open for intercession by saying without his permission. More proof, and more proof for Shaf’a. Allah(swt) in the Quran tells us to use a means of Wasilla to get to him. Quran Surah:5 Verse:35- O ye who believe! Be mindful of your duty to Allah, and seek the way of approach (Wasilla) onto Him, and strive in His way in order that ye may succeed. For those who question you on the verse and say that’s not what the verse means in Arabic and you have taken the verse out of context, here is the verse in Arabic.“ Yā ‘Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna ‘Āmanū Attaqū Allāha Wa Abtaghū ‘Ilayhi Al-Wasīlata Wa Jāhidū Fī Sabīlihi La`allakum Tufliĥūna. Allah(swt) in this verse clearly is instructing mankind to use His representatives as means of access to HIM. Quran Surah:10 Verse:3- Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods, and He is firm in power, regulating the affair, there is no intercessor except after His permission; this is Allah, your Lord, therefore serve Him; will you not then mind? Quran Surah:34 Verse:23- And intercession will not avail aught with Him save of him whom He permits Until when fear shall be removed from their hearts, They shall say: What is it that your Lord said? They shall say: The truth. And He is the Most High, the Great.

So why then does Quran say that there is no intercession when Allah(swt) clearly says that there are people who he will permit it for? Because it is referring to the people that disbelieved or took up other Gods besides Allah(swt). Quran Surah:30 Verse:13- And they shall not have any intercessors from among their gods they have joined with God, and they shall be deniers of their associate-gods. Also for the people that took there religion for granted and played games with it as stated in a verse presented by the Sunni sect, Quran Surah:6 Verse:70. That’s why Imam Jaffar as-Sadiq(as) says "those who neglect there Salah (daily prayers) will not receive our (Ahlul Bayts)(as) Shafa’a". So how can one who does not do his Wajbat ( Islamic duties to Allah(swt)) expect to receive Shafa’a from Ahlul Bayt(as). It does not happen. Quran makes that clear Quran Surah:74 Verse:48- So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. The verse is saying not that they will try to do Shafa’a for you and it will be rejected but, stating the fact that if the interceders that Allah(swt) has accepted were to intercede and and that did nothing for you then by what means do you think anything else will save or have mercy for you on that day.

Now that the case for intercession has been shown we must show who Allah(swt) allows to perform this act. They must meet these conditions.

Quran Surah:19 Verse:87- They shall not control intercession, save he who has made a covenant with the Beneficent God.

Quran Surah:43 Verse:86- And those whom they call upon besides Him have no authority for intercession, but he who bears witness of the truth and they know the truth.

Quran Surah:21 Verse:28- He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not intercede except for him whom He approves and for fear of Him they tremble.

Quran Surah:20 Verse:109- On that day shall no intercession avail except of him whom the Beneficent God allows and whose word He is pleased with.

To make this last part short If Allah(swt) has made a covenant with the Imams don’t you think logically that they must meet the other conditions. And once again for the people who Question covenant with Imama: even if you have a different interpretation of the word, a covenant was still established with it during Prophet Ibrahim’s(as) time. Allah(swt) Says my COVENANT will not reach the unjust. So only the righteous shall be made a covenant with. And what did Prophet Ibrahim(as) ask to get this answer? "Will there be from my OFFSPRING". LET ALONE THEY ARE AHLUL BAYT(Quran33:33).

Even when you present a flawless case there are some who don’t use logic, don’t care for facts and what you have to say; all they want to do is be ignorant and illogical. As for those who have come from our Sunni brothers and sisters who truly want to learn, use logic, have the open mind to understand the truth of fact, and are not afraid of the truth, Insha’Allah this post helped. Salaamu alaykum.

Many times the Shia are attacked by the Ahlul Sunni wa Jamma on the way we combine the Duhr prayer with the Asr and the Mughrib with the Isha. They claim that this is haram and that Salah is intended to be prayed individually. They also claim that this was only done by the Prophet (saw) when he was on a journey, state of fear or during rainfall, and this sunna of the prophet can’t be practiced any other way. So how do we respond to this? First of let me make it clear that Shia do not say that there is anything whatsoever wrong with praying the individual prayers separately. We claim that the Duhr and Asr prayers and Mughrib and Isha prayers can be offered either together or separately and that it is mustahab action to pray them separately.

When we read Quran we read that we are supposed to pray, But the Quran does not tell you how to pray. For this we follow the Sunna (the way) of Prophet(saw). So when we read the Quran on when to pray it splits times of prayer into THREE sections. Examples:

Quran Surah: 11 (HUD) Verse:114- And keep up prayer in the two parts of the day and in the first hour of the night; surely good deeds take away evil deeds; this is a reminder to the mindful.

Quran Surah: 17 (The Israelites) Verse: 78- Keep up prayer from the declining Sun till the darkness of the night and the morning recitation; surely the morning recitation is witnessed.

Quran Surah: 20 (Taha) Verse:130- Bear then patiently what they say, and glorify your Lord by praising Him before the rising of sun and before it’s setting, and during hours of the night do also glorify Him and during parts of the day that you may be well pleased.

So even Quran has split Salah into three sections. The closest verse in the Quran that could possibly be indicated for five prayers is the last example I used. But even this verse does not directly say five. In fact if you try to explain the verse like that, then tafaseer (explanation) of the verse could indicate more then five. When it says parts of the day, we know it as two times a day, but without the knowledge of when to pray as the verse indicates which comes from the hadith it could range form 1-100. Lets say for example the parts of the day means 2 hours long. I could pray for two hours straight and it would still be parts of the day. And the same for when it says glorify him in the hours of the night. The only Salah that is separate is the morning.

Now we examine Hadith. It would be pointless to present Shia hadith on this subject because Ahlul Sunna wa Jamma would say we don’t except your hadith. So I will produce only Sunni hadith on if combining Salah at anytime of life is allowed. But before I do that I will explain why Allah(swt) has allowed us to do this. In fact that it is a blessing of his mercy to mankind.

It is for the convenience of the umma (people). Because people are often busy with their own affairs and have their own duties, like in countries where the work system is not structured for a Islamic system so Muslims are not able to offer their daily prayers according to time. Also some jobs require long hours of continuous, undisturbed work. Therefore in order to avoid missing the second of the two prayers Allah(swt) has made it convenient for you to combine the Duhr with the Asr and Mughrib with the Isha. Also this way you can have prayed Friday prayer (Jammah) with the Asr prayer after in Jammah increasing your reward.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 10, Number 537- Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet prayed seven Rakat together and eight Rakat together.

Sahih Muslim Book 004, Number 1515- Ibn ‘Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed the noon and afternoon prayers together, and the sunset and Isha’ prayers together without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey.

Sahih Muslim Book 004, Number 1516- Ibn ‘Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed the noon and afternoon prayers together in Medina without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey. (Abu Zubair said: I asked Sa’id [one of the narrators] why he did that. He said: I asked Ibn ‘Abbas as you have asked me, and he replied that he [the Holy Prophet] wanted that no one among his Ummah should be put to [unnecessary] hardship.)

Sahih Muslim Book 004, Number 1520- Ibn ‘Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) combined the noon prayer with the afternoon prayer and the sunset prayer with the ‘Isha’ prayer in Medina without being in a state of danger or rainfall. And in the hadith transmitted by Waki’ (the words are):” I said to Ibn ‘Abbas: What prompted him to do that? He said: So that his (Prophet’s) Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship.” And in the hadith transmitted by Mu’awiya (the words are):” It was said to Ibn ‘Abbas: What did he intend thereby? He said he wanted that his Ummah should not be put to unnecessary hardship.”

Sahih Muslim Book 004, Number 1523- ‘Abdullah b. Shaqiq reported: Ibn ‘Abbas one day addressed us in the afternoon (after the afternoon prayer) till the sun disappeared and the stars appeared, and the people began to say: Prayer, prayer. A person from Banu Tamim came there. He neither slackened nor turned away, but (continued crying): Prayer, prayer. Ibn ‘Abbas said: May you be deprived of your mother, do you teach me Sunnah? And then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) combining the noon and afternoon prayers and the sunset and ‘Isha’ prayers. ‘Abdullah b. Shaqiq said: Some doubt was created in my mind about it. So I came to Abu Huraira and asked him (about it) and he testified his assertion.

There are so many more but this sufficient evidence. Let alone there from the two greatest book that Sunni consider Sahih.

So after examining all the irrefutable evidence, combining Duhr and Asr prayers and Mughrib and Isha prayers, is in harmony with the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet(saw). The fact that this Sunnah is not generally practiced by Ahlul Sunna wa jamma does not make it default in our lives. As the famous Sunni commentator of Sahih Muslim, Al-Nawawi Says- When a Sunnah (way of the Prophet (saw) )is confirmed authentic, it is not abandoned just because some, most or all people abandon it.
